How to Keep Your Fountain Looking Beautiful & Brand New

November 01, 2021

An outdoor fountain can be a great addition to your backyard, but you’ll need to maintain it to keep it looking beautiful properly. Through these six easy steps, you can take your fountain from looking old & dirty to new & beautiful in no time!

1. REMOVE LEAVES/GRASS

Leaves, twigs & grass clipping can find their way into your fountain regularly. Leaving these in your fountain can make it look dirty & not well kept. Remove these to create a cleaner look & to prevent any blockage of the water flow which could cause future problems.

2. MONITOR WATER LEVEL

Have you noticed the water level is lower than usual? Inspect the fountain & find cracks or leaks that may be the source of the low water level & wasteful water loss.

3. PREVENT/REMOVE ALGAE

Algae can grow in garden fountains. However, algae growth can be prevented by changing the water once a week or add an anti-algae solution. Also, if you see algae growth, remove it immediately.

If you notice your fountain’s water has changed color because of algae growth, you can purchase Solaron Pond Dye from Solarogen to regain its color.

A few ways to properly maintain an outdoor fountain area are removing leaves from the fountain, monitoring water level & removing algae. Still, there are a few more maintenance measures you can take.

4. KEEP PUMP WORKING

Your fountain’s pump is a crucial component. To keep it functioning correctly, remove debris that has been collected in the valve, flush it out if it is clogged, & replace the filters & damaged mechanisms, if necessary. To avoid more significant, more expensive problems, make sure to check up on your fountain’s pump routinely.

5. REMOVE ANIMAL WASTE

Birds & other small creatures will visit your fountain but may leave behind dropping. Clean the surface area of your fountain to remove the animal waste & change the water if trash is found in it.

6. REPLENISH WATER REGULARLY

The water should be replenished at least once a week. Clean water helps keep the system running smoothly & make fountains more inviting to animals. Also, add some additives to reduce buildups.

Remember, fountain maintenance is essential. However, it helps upgrade your space only if it is well kept. You can also give your fountain an inexpensive makeover with Solaron Pond Dye from Solarogen if you want to restore its color or even change the color completely.
